Assessment instructions The purpose of this assessment is to provide the opportunity for students to critically engage with underpinning theoretical frameworks learnt in academic subjects taken prior to placement. Students will relate the concepts and theories to their placement in order to examine whether they are being applied or not within their organisation.
This will be assessed via the following report:
REPORT (THEORY AND PRACTICE)
You have settled into your placement, making a contribution and experiencing / observing how things are done. This represents a significant learning event worthy of reflection and analysis.
Refer to the framework and instructions below to help guide your report:
Executive Summary - 200 words guide
A succinct summary of the report highlighting main aims and outcomes.
Introduction - 200 words guide
Provide a brief overview of your current placement context including your department(s) / work area(s) and your current projects and/or on- going day-to-day activities.
Body - Theory & Practice - 800 words guide
Choose at least two subject areas from your studies so far.
Identify and explain the extent to which the concepts and theories that you learned in College in your chosen units are being applied – or not being applied – in your organisation.
Conclusion - 200 words guide
Summarise suggestions for improvement to be implemented in your organisation based on your theory and practice analysis.
Briefly explain what has been gained from your placement that could not have been gained through theory.

Readings for the assessment On the Student Support Centre (SSC) resource page there are a variety of academic resources and tips available to support students
with their tasks and activities including reflective writing, writing a report and report formatting.
When referring to your placement experience and observations, the writing is mostly subjective being based on or influenced by personal opinions. A reflective, first person point of view is the most appropriate form of writing. When you are referring to the theory (i.e. citing academic sources and concepts) write in the third person.
Refer to the ICMS Style Guide and APA referencing method to correctly reference material in the body of your report (in-text citations) and in the alphabetical Reference List. See the Student Support Centre (SSC) resource page for guidance.

Refer to the relevant class content, readings, theories and concepts from the academic units selected in your report as applicable. Use independent research from reliable academic and industry sources as applicable.
References may include subject notes, text books, journal articles, interviews, research articles. Also include supporting documentation / appendices if applicable, for example, training programs, organisational charts.
