Course aim
Provides students with the skills and knowledge to select, install, configure and secure systems to meet organisation requirements. Students learn about different types of operating systems, both proprietary and open source.
Purpose
Students will apply the skills and knowledge acquired in this course to select, install, configure systems with appropriate operating system that meets organisation requirements.
Assessment Information
1. This is an open book assessment which is research-based and is worth 70% of your total course marks.
2. You will be doing three practical tasks during your lab sessions and will demonstrate to the tutor the completed task. Further instructions are given in this cover sheet.
3. You have one week to complete this assessment.
4. Late assessments will incur a penalty of 5% per day (unless an extension is granted before the due date). Any assessment received later than 7 days after the due date will not be marked.
5. Use a word document to provide screenshots of all your completed tasks and submit it through the link on Canvas assessment submission link.

Task A - Cloud Computing and Virtualization (30 Marks)
LO 3: Demonstrate knowledge of cloud services and virtualisation.
Scenario 1
Your boss wants to purchase a new web browser application to be distributed to approximately 40 users in the company. Although the vendor says the application has broad operating system support, your boss wants to be sure it will work on the different operating systems running on the company’s user workstations. He wants you to verify compatibility by using evaluation copies of the software without disrupting users or their computers. Due to time, computers availability constrain you planned the demonstration using Cloud Platform Virtual Machines to your boss how the application is working in all three OSs that your company uses.
• Create your personal Cloud Account, Azure, Google, or AWS
• Create 3 Virtual Machines in your chosen Cloud Platform with 3 different operating systems, Windows 10, Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux
• Install a Web Browser software in all three virtual machines, o In Windows 10 – Mozilla Firefox o In Ubuntu Linux - Google Chrome o In Debian Linux – a web browser which is not native to the operating system.
• Demonstrate the functioning of the web browser application in all three operating systems using remote access - login to VM’s located into the cloud platform.

You work for a company called Aptech systems as a Senior Security Engineer. The company is planning to expand its organisation to two new locations across Auckland.
However, as part of the preparation they want to tighten the security of their network by focusing on changing and upgrading the primary headquarters server.
They would like you to carry out the following tasks. Ensure you create accurate documentation by including a screenshot for each completed point.
Using virtualisation software, install and configure a new Windows Server, ensuring you follow the required configuration set out below.
