Individual written report assessing learning outcomes 1-5, comprising 100% of module marks
Political or organisational theory can be used to critically evaluate operations of tourism planning and development and the work of critical organisations in this sector, such as the Hong Kong Tourism Commission. In addition, the reuse of historic buildings for contemporary functions is a ‘tool’ currently being employed in cities around the world to develop what they offer in the areas of tourism, leisure, events and hospitality.
This assignment is made up of two parts, which are below. All students must complete both parts.
Part 1
A. Critically evaluate the purpose and functions of the Hong Kong Tourism Commission in Tourism Industry.
B. Use two examples to identify and categorise the stakeholders that work in partnership with the Hong Kong Tourism Commission on projects related to tourism, leisure, events and/or hospitality and critically evaluate their relationship with the Commission.

C. Appraise the impact of the Tourism Commission’s work in the areas of tourism, leisure, events and/or hospitality.
Part 2
D. Critically analyse the benefits and challenges of using historic buildings for modern tourism, leisure, events and hospitality functions.
E. Select an example of an historic building used for tourism, leisure, events and/or hospitality functions in Hong Kong. Examine the building’s history, its current function and critically analyse the impact it has on its surrounding area socially and economically.
The work should make use of an appropriate number of references from academia and practice and Harvard referencing is to be used throughout the document to reference all sources used.
You should use maps, images, diagrams, tables and other figures to help communicate what you want to say. Label all figures.
The report must be 4,000 words (+/- 10%).
Submission is electronically through Canvas and Turnitin only. No paper copy is required.

Submission
Students are required to submit their coursework through JIRA. Only assessments submitted through JIRA will be marked. Any other submission including submission to your study centre in hard copy will be treated as a non-submission.
If your centre supports Turnitin©, a copy of your Turnitin© originality report must be submitted in conjunction with your assignment.
Turnitin is a piece of software that checks work submitted by students against web-based sources for originality. Work is also checked for originality against other student submissions. You will receive an induction as to the use of Turnitin; if you do not, please contact your programme leader. The following rules apply to all students studying on all programmes:
1. All students are required to submit assessed work through Turnitin
2. The penalty for students who do not submit their assessed work through Turnitin is that their mark is withheld and the assessment board may deem the work to have failed.
