6. An enrolled nursing student is undertaking a Clinical Placement in a Residential Aged Care Facility. 8. An Enrolled Nurse (EN) working night shift in a busy surgical ward assists an elderly post-operative patient out of bed to the toilet. He has a history of being unsteady on his feet and was wearing thrombo-embolic disease (TED)stockings. Although the EN noticed his slippers under the bed, she omitted to assist the patient to put them on. He walked off in his stockinged feet, slipped and fell breaking his hip.
