Aim
The aim of the assignment is to demonstrate the breadth and depth of your research and analytical skills. This assignment will also give you the opportunity to further investigate and apply some of the theories relevant to Design from a sociological perspective. Your ability to communicate effectively throught formal written argument will also be further enhanced.
The Brief
Address either one of the following questions:
(1) Should designers consider how audiences will interpret their work before they put it into production? What problems come from ignoring feedback, or from ignoring your own judgement?
(2) Does theory restrict creativity, or does it help it? Argue both sides.
(3) Should design education be about how deseign operates within society, or should it be about how to design? Or both?
(4) What do your choices of clothes and furniture and homewares say about you? Do they represent the 'real' you, or the person you aspire to be? Looking a photographs of yourself from the past, how has your appearance changed ad what were the influences that deterinded it?
(5) Can designers work outside 'culture' or must they always be part of it?
