Weighting: 40%
Length: 1200 words (two question ~600 words each)
Learning outcomes: 1, 2 and 3

Directions

Injury is a significant cause of illness, hospitalization, disability and death in Australian infants, children and adolescents. The purpose of this assessment task is to demonstrate an understanding of how socioeconomic status, and risk taking, is related to injury and death in infants, children and adolescents.

This Assessment Task 1 has two parts;

For Part A (~600 words)

From your research into the leading causes of injury or death in Australian infants, children and adolescents explain how the Social Determinants of Health impact on the causes of injury or death. Give an example to support your discussion.

For Part B (~600 words)

Find a picture, news item, YouTube video or something similar, that is available on the World Wide Web (provide the URL for the examiner to view), of an infant, child or adolescent doing, or about to do something risky. Explain the potential risk, and discuss the behavior in relation to the infant/child/adolescent’s cognitive and physical development. Consider how the community is addressing this issue to prevent or minimize the risk of injury.

Submit Part A and Part B in a Word Document, into the Assessment 1 Dropbox in MyLO by the due date.
