KEEP YOUR FOCUS ON ADDRESSING THE STUDENT’S LITERACY DEVELOPMENT (NOT behaviour, self-esteem, class management issues etcetera)
This is a professional report that you could confidently hand to colleagues and family to read.
1. Read the report.
Please note: Do not place your opinion in the report i.e. no ‘I’ or ‘you’ statements.
2. In a paragraph or two, summarise the key issues and provide reference support as to why they are important to be addressed for this student.
3. Select one or two of the key issues that you identified.
4. Based on the educational psychologist’s report…
a. Record practical and realistic recommendations about what the teacher can do to progress the student’s skills for the key issues that you identified.
b. Every recommendation must have reference support.
c. DO NOT recommend published programs OR the use of worksheets.
d. Do not suggest that the student be withdrawn from the class or work with another person in the class (access to other personnel is not guaranteed). This is about what the class teacher can do.
e. Keep asking yourself…Would the teacher feel that what I am recommending is doable in his/her class?
