STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS:
You are required to demonstrate the knowledge you have gained from undertaking BSBMGT617 Develop and Implement a Business Plan unit of competency.
• All questions must be answered correctly to be completed satisfactorily.
• All knowledge assessments are untimed and are conducted as open book (this means student can refer to textbooks or any resources).
• Student may handwrite/use computers to answer the questions.
• This assessment task may be completed in a classroom, at home, learning management system (i.e. Moodle), or independent learning environment.
• You must complete all questions unassisted by the assessor or other personnel but may refer to reference material as needed.
Submission details
• The Assessment Task is due on the date specified by your trainer. Any variations to this arrangement must be approved in writing by your trainer.
• Fill out and attach the Assessment Submission form to the documents you are submitting to be marked.
• Please answer each question on a separate page provided and clearly indicate the question number at the top of the page.
• The Trainer/Assessor may further prompt and question in order to receive answers of appropriate quality or if further clarification is required and to validate authenticity of your submitted work.

STUDENT TO COMPLETE AND SUBMIT
STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS:
The project is designed to assess the skills required to strategically manage the marketing process and marketing personnel within an organization (simulated business called ‘Café Culture’).
• If you are not sure about any aspect of the assessment or would like to discuss your particular needs, please speak to your trainer.
• Your trainer will tell you the date you need to submit your assignment.
• You need to complete all parts and submit them together by the due date.
• This project assignment is to be completed using the “Café Culture” case study. It is included in the “Appendix”.
• The checklist table will identify the records that you are required to prepare and submit (as a single submission).
• Your assignment must be typed (in 12 point type on A4 paper) and you need to complete an Assessment Cover Page.
• Make sure you keep a copy of your assignment before you hand it in to your trainer
Note :
Any Role Play or Presentation needs to be completed in the class with your Trainer / Assessor on the date specified by your trainer.
CASE STUDY BASED PROJECT REPORT WITH ROLE PLAY TASK
This part of the assessment requires students to develop and implement a business plan by completing the 3 Tasks and satisfying their criteria’s. In doing so students will develop a business plan, monitor its performance and respond to performance data based on the case study ‘Café Culture’ and the information provided in the Appendix 1 – 3.
Task 1: In Task 1 students will be required to develop a business plan, by conducting consultation processes to determine the key elements of the business plan and developing the business plan document based on their findings. In order to satisfy the criteria of Task 1 students must complete the activities below as per the instructions.
Task 2: In Task 2 students are required to implement the business plan which they have developed in Task 1 and monitor its performance using the information provided in Appendix 2. Students must complete the activities provided below to satisfy the criteria of Task 2.
Task 3: In Task 3 students are required to respond to performance data by analysing the performance reports against planned objectives, reviewing performance indicators, ensuring under-performers are coached and reviewing and developing continuous improvement processes.

Part 1.
This part of the assessment requires students to develop and implement a business plan by completing the 3 Tasks and satisfying their criteria’s. In doing so students will develop a business plan, monitor its performance and respond to performance data based on the case study ‘Café Culture’ and the information provided in the Appendix 1 – 3.
?Task 1
In Task 1 students will be required to develop a business plan, by conducting consultation processes to determine the key elements of the business plan and developing the business plan document based on their findings. In order to satisfy the criteria of Task 1 students must complete the activities below as per the instructions.
a) Students are required to conduct a role play in which they will be acting as the general manager for Café Culture and conducting a consultation process to determine the key elements of the organisations business plan.
Role Play Instructions:
• Form groups of 3 students
• Once you have formed groups of 3 inform your trainer
• Your group will be conducting a meeting as the management team of Café Culture
• In your meeting you will need to complete the following activities to determine the required information for the business plan
• Be sure to make notes while conducting the meeting, as this will be necessary to write the business plan in Task 1 (b)
Role Play Activities:
• Review, evaluate and discuss the pre-existing strategic, business and operational information provided in the case study
• Analyse, interpret and discuss Café Culture’s vision, mission, values and objectives
• Review and discuss the market requirements for the café, profile of the target customer and positioning within the market
• Determine and discuss the key performance objectives of Café Culture and how they will be measured
• Identify and discuss the financial, human and physical resources required to achieve the performance objectives
• Research and discuss if there are any permits or licenses that may be required in order to conduct the Café’s operations
b) Based on your findings in Task 1 (a) and the information provided in the case study, write a business plan using the following structure. (400-600 words)

Note: you may make assumptions if information is not available for a particular part of the business plan. However, you must clearly highlight your assumptions, which must be plausible and justifiable.

In Task 2 students are required to implement the business plan which they have developed in Task 1 and monitor its performance using the information provided in Appendix 2. Students must complete the activities provided below to satisfy the criteria of Task 2.
a) As the General Manager for Café Culture, you are required to communicate the business plan to all relevant parties. To do so, you must compose an email to management team of Café Culture, in which you must provide a brief summary of the plans performance objectives and timeframes, and ensure that the receiver has understood by asking if they need further clarification.

b) As the General Manager of Café Culture you must ensure that skilled labour is available to implement the business plan. c) A year has now passed since the implementation of your business plan. As such, the CEO of Café Culture has asked an external auditor to conduct an audit of the organisations performance in Year 1.
As the General Manager of Café Culture you must test the performance of the organisation, by assessing audit results against your KPIs, financial and non-financial performance measures, as per your business plan.
Once you have reviewed the results of the audit and tested Café Culture’s performance in Year 1, you must report your findings to all stakeholders of the organisation. To do this you must compose an email, reporting the following information:
• Café Culture Performance Objectives and KPIs as per your business plan in Task 1 (b) for Year 1
• Review of external audit results for Year 1, covering financial and non-financial performance results
• Business plan system failures (e.g. training systems, monitoring systems) and product failures (e.g. wrong menu for the targeted market)
• Are the performance indicators in the business plan effective at providing a clear indication into the organisations performance?
• Areas for improvement/variations to the business plan for the upcoming years.

Task 2: Your assessor will be looking for:
Before you hand in the Task 2 assessment tasks, use the checklist below to make sure you have completed all the activities and have included all relevant information.
• Communicated the business plan to all relevant parties and ensured understanding of performance requirements and timeframes
• Ensured skilled labour is available to implement the plan
• Tested performance measurement systems and refined them where necessary
• Ensured timely reports on all key aspects of the business are available, user-friendly and balanced in terms of financial and non-financial performance
• Reported system failures, product failures and variances to the business plan as they occur

In Task 3 students are required to respond to performance data by analysing the performance reports against planned objectives, reviewing performance indicators, ensuring under-performers are coached and reviewing and developing continuous improvement processes.
a) Based on your findings in Task 2 (c), identify groups and individuals contributing to underperformance and ensure that they are coached and provided the necessary training to ensure they can work effectively.
To do this, you must complete the coaching/training template provided in the Appendix 3.
b) As the General Manager of Café Culture, you determine that although a yearly external audit is necessary to identify under-performance, regular continuous improvement practices are also necessary. As such, you must develop continuous improvement processes for the organisation. Your process may build upon the performance measurement systems in your business plan, which you can elaborate on to show how regular monitoring and small changes can lead to effective performance throughout the long term. (50-100 words)
Task 3: Your assessor will be looking for:
Before you hand in the Task 3 assessment tasks, use the checklist below to make sure you have completed all the activities and have included all relevant information.
• Analysed performance reports against planned objectives
• Reviewed performance indicators and refined if necessary
• Ensured groups and individuals contributing to under-performance are coached, and provided training where appropriate
• Reviewed system processes and work methods regularly as part of continuous improvement
