DUE: Monday 2 June 2014
Please email me asap you need an extension.
Introduction: With the Federal election completed many issues were debated publicly. Behind the blur of asylum seeker arguments, the manufacturing industry debates and the carbon tax uncertainty an issue that rarely seems to attract a great deal of attention in the press is the issue of inequality in Australia.
What input would you have had into the political debate before the election last year?
Scenario:
Keenly interested in the trendy 'student vote' the leaders of the major political parties agree to invite students from all over Australia to present an issue that they (the student) would like to see addressed. You have been chosen to represent the Gippsland TAFE's and having recently completed your Sociology readings, you are excited about bringing the issue of inequality to the forefront of the political agenda.
Expectations:
The topic of your speech will be “Tackling inequality:
In no particular order you should include the following:
• Definition/Explanation of the issue(s) of inequality in Australia
• Give Examples & Statistics
• Discuss what causes inequality
• Discuss how globalisation OR capitalism influence the vulnerable in our society
• Discuss why you are studying this course?
• Discuss how welfare workers make a difference to inequality in Australia
• Suggest one way Government policy could do more to tackle the issue of inequality in Australia
Presentation Guidelines:
You are required to prepare the above presentation which should last for between 5-10mins. The speech must be your own words and you should cite a minimum of two references.
You have the choice of either submitting a comprehensive power-point presentation, an individually created video (from camera or iphone etc) of the speech you would make, or the written transcript from the speech you would make to Government (essay format minimum 1500 words). We would much prefer you try an alternative medium for this assessment to practice alternative presentation techniques if you are able to do so.
If you want to discuss options for this please email me,
