THT2114 Sustainable Operations and Destinations
The final assessment task for THT2114 comprises of two parts:
1. Individual Case Scenario (3A) and
2. Case Study Reflection (3B). Two separate case studies will be provided.
1. Assessment Task 3A – Individual Case Scenario (20 marks)
Students will be provided with TWO (2) questions each worth 10 marks. While the Case Scenario focusses on many of the topics/concepts covered in the subject it has an emphasis on the following core themes:
• Responsible Marketing and Branding of a Destination
• Development and Management of Sustainable Destinations
Students are expected to write approximately 500 – 600 words per question. You are required to undertake limited wider reading. At least 2-3 scholarly references (in addition to the textbook) are required. Internet resources such as Wikipedia and/or quickmba.com are not considered adequate references. In addition, you may choose to refer to the website that relates to the case study as provided. All references must be formatted using APA Style
The Case Scenario -Uluru–Kata Tjuta National Park” has been posted on the LMS. It identifies three key challenges for a sustainable destination such as “Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park: responsible consumption, sustainable host communities and collaborative partnerships.
USING EXAMPLES FROM THE CASE STUDY PROVIDED DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING:
Question 1:
The Nguraritja (including the Anangu traditional owners) and Parks Australia share decisionmaking for the management of Uluru–Kata Tjuta National Park. Using examples from the Case Study, discuss the key issues and challenges in managing the:
• Operations
• Resources
• Brand image

Question 2:
Using some of the key concepts of sustainable development and examples from the case study, identify how the Uluru–Kata Tjuta National Park can successfully manage the relationships between economics, people and the environment.
