ESSAY TASK
Write an essay of a maximum of 4,000 words (not including the reference list) on the following:
Use a policy analysis framework of your choice to critically analyse sport policy in ONE COUNTRY over a period of at least 10 years. In your analysis, make sure you examine both elite sport policy and mass participation sport policy.
GUIDANCE
This essay should not be a detailed description of policy events. Instead, it should be a critical analysis of sport policy. Of course, you will need to provide some description, i.e. you will need to describe what the key things were that happened during the time period you are analysing. However, you should concentrate on addressing why things happened.
Specifically, the task asks you to use a particular policy analysis framework, such as the 'Multiple Streams Framework', the 'Advocacy Coalition Framework' or one of the other policy analysis frameworks discussed in the academic literature. We discuss these in detail in Week 5, but you can read about them at any time in the Essential Reading for Week 5, as well as in many other journal articles, book chapters and books you can find.
Choose ONE FRAMEWORK for your analysis. Introduce it near the beginning of your essay and justify why you have chosen it. This introduction and justification should not be long (no more than 500 words in total), but it should explain why you think the framework is useful for analysing sport policy. Then, for the rest of the essay, USE your framework to critically analyse sport policy in the country you have chosen over a period of at least 10 years.
At the end of your essay, provide a conclusion, drawing the key aspects of your analysis together and reflecting on how useful the framework you chose was for the analysis (again, this should not be more than 500 words in total).
